Will MCPL staff be in attendance?

• Yes, this event will be chaperoned by 2–3 MCPL staff members at all times. You will only have access to the event space and bathrooms during the program.

How many patrons are allowed to attend?

• These events are registration-based and limited to 15–20 teens. The anime will be selected by Library staff and will be teen appropriate.

How will patrons be able to attend?

• If you are at the Library during the day, you will be asked to leave at 6 PM when the Library closes so that we can set up for the events. The door will be unlocked at 7 PM, and you may arrive anytime after that time.
• If the event is Downtown, use the Kirkwood Avenue entrance when you arrive. If the event is at Ellettsville, enter through the main entrance.
• If you are driving yourself, you can park in the Library parking lot for free, but you will have to use the Kirkwood Avenue entrance for the Downtown Library.

Do patrons have to stay for the entire event?

• No, you do not have to stay the entire time. Caregivers may come to pick you up/you may leave any time before the event ends at 9:30 PM.

• Yes, this event will be chaperoned by at minimum four MCPL staff members, two adult volunteers, and one library security guard. Patrons will only have access to the event space and bathrooms during the program.

How will patrons be able to attend?

• If you are at the Library during the day, you will be asked to leave at 6 PM when the Library closes so that we can set up.
• Use the Kirkwood Avenue entrance when you arrive. The door will be unlocked at 7 PM, and you may arrive any time after.
• If you are driving yourself, you can park in the Library parking lot for free, but you will have to use the Kirkwood Avenue entrance.

What is the dress code?

• You can come dressed however you want—Masquerade costume, semi-formal, regular clothes, prom attire, etc. The only rule is that clothes/costumes must be PG appropriate. We will have a station set up to make masquerade masks at the event. This will be available until 8:15 PM. There will also be a photo booth setup throughout the event.

• Use the Kirkwood Avenue entrance when you arrive. The door will be unlocked at 7 PM, and you may arrive any time after.
• If you are driving yourself, you can park in the Library parking lot for free, but you will have to use the Kirkwood Avenue entrance.

What is the dress code?

• You can come dressed however you want—Zombie, Halloween costume, regular clothes, prom attire, etc. The only rule is that clothes/costumes must be PG appropriate. We will have stations set up to help you with any makeup/hair help you might need. This will be available until 8:15 PM. There will also be a photo booth setup throughout the event.

Will MCPL staff be present?

• Yes. One to two Library staff members will be in the room at all times.

How many teens can attend?

• This program is a drop-in event without a registration limit.

Do teens need to stay the whole time?

• No, patrons may come and go at any time.

What do we watch?

• Anime for which we have a public viewing license from Swank Movie Licensing USA and Crunchyroll.

Who chooses what we watch?

• While MCPL staff choose a primary anime for each session, teens can vote on different options during the program. Library staff will research reviews and available ratings for all anime presented during a program to ensure it is appropriate for a teen audience. Library staff approve anime rated up to PG-13 or TV-14, although any episode can be vetoed upon viewing by either Library staff or the program participants.

Where do we get ratings and reviews?

• We use the following sites for age ratings and reviews:
  • Internet Movie Database supplies age ratings from various sources, including different countries in the case of international material.
  • MyAnimeList is a fan community that rates anime. The age recommendations here tend to be stricter than TV or MPAA guidelines.
  • Funimation and Viz Media both provide age ratings for their shows.

What if a club member objects to the anime being shown?

• We all have different preferences for the kind of media we consume. If a teen is uncomfortable watching a show, or if they think the content is too scary/violent/suggestive/etc., they are welcome to raise their concerns to the group or privately with the MCPL staff member in charge. No club member is expected to watch a show that is upsetting or triggering. However, it is up to the teen to raise their concerns. Otherwise, it is assumed that the content is acceptable to everyone in attendance.

What if a caregiver objects to the anime being shown?

• Caregivers are responsible for determining what Library programs their children can attend. If you are uncomfortable with your teen viewing material rated PG-13 or TV-14, this club may not be a good fit.

  Each family has the right to determine which Library materials and programs are acceptable for its children and must accord the same right to other caregivers.
