Adult Literacy 

Adult Learning Activities: California Distance Learning Project offers reading and life skills study.  Subjects include family, working, school, money and more.  Online study includes text with available audio, along with vocabulary and comprehension exercises.  Directed study for learners.

The Center for Adult English Language Acquisition: ESL and family literacy resources; FAQ's, first-day orientation guide, lesson plans, research-to-practice papers on English language and literacy learning.

English Maven: Language Arts for K - 12, GED, and ESL learners; variety of study and practice activities for phonics, spelling, grammar, also has citizenship study materials.

Khan Academy: Video presentations on wide variety of subjects, from introductory to advanced levels.

Literacy Volunteer Connection: Advice, tutoring tips, methodolgies, experienced tutor's stories

ProLiteracy Education Network: Online reading, writing, and math prep, lesson plans, activities, tutoring strategies, and techniques for tutors.

English As a Second Language (ESL)

American English Pronunciation Practice (For ESL/EFL) Listening practice for those new to English. Practice, differentiating similar sounding words, vowel and consonant sounds, word ending, and more.

ESL Resource Center: Teacher resources for beginnng to advanced students - pronunciation, vocabulary, writing and more.

The Internet TESL Journal: ESL Lesson plans, classwork, handouts, quizzes, crossword puzzles and games.

Khan Academy: Video presentations from introductory to advanced levels (Basic math videos listed under "Developmental Math")

Discovery Education: Use "Teacher" or "Student" link to access subject menus choose "math" for access to a variety of tools and exercises for basic arithematic to Algebra, Calculus, and Geometry.

Homeschool Math: Worksheets, lesson plans, video, and games.  Exercises include word problems and logic puzzles levels K-6 includes basic algebra and geometry.

Thinkfinity: Use the search on home page to find mathematics lesson plans, activities, videos, worksheets, and interactive online exercises.

Self-Directed Learning:

Learn4Life: Enroll with your MCPL library card in up to five interactive online courses per calendar year at no cost. Courses run for six weeks and new sessions begin every month. Once on the Learning 4 Life site check out: Language Arts, Teaching and Education (classes on how to teach ESL), College readiness (GED Preparation) and many other subjects.

For Learners

ITTS and GED: Instruction in reading, language, mathematics, science, social studies, and GED preparation.  Registation available through VITAL Staff, also available through Broadview Learning Center.

Mango: Language learning program offering instruction in English, Spanish, French, Italian, Japanese, and many more languages!  Free with your Monroe County Public Library card.  Registaration required.  

USCIS Interactive Practice Exercises for the U.S. Civics Test: “Preparing for the Oath U.S. History and Civics for Citizenship” videos and activities to prepare for the U. S. history and civics tests for U. S. citizenship. “Naturalization Self Test” - practice test for knowledge of U.S. history and government.

WIN Career Readiness Courseware: Coursework in Applied Mathematics, Locating Information, Reading for Information, Applied Technology, Listening, Observation, Teamwork, Writing, Business Writing, Work Habits and Contextual Models.
