To request an item for Interlibrary Loan, please complete this form. The Interlibrary Loan system enables libraries within the United States to lend to one another's patrons using OCLC WorldShare.
MCPL patron accounts must be in good standing (owing less than $20 in fees) to submit an ILL request. Patrons may only have three ILL items checked out at a time, however, additional requests may be submitted; these requests will be fulfilled as borrowed ILL items are returned.
Please note that not all requests for materials can be fulfilled through the ILL system, as our ability to borrow through Interlibrary Loan is limited.
These items may NOT be requested via ILL:
- All audiovisual materials (CD, DVD, audiobook, video game, etc.)
- Books published within the last six months

Books currently available for checkout at IU Bloomington libraries
- Patrons may create an IU Borrower’s Card for checkout with a valid Indiana ID at IU Bloomington Libraries.

In general, books available at the Herman B. Wells Library, ALF, Music Library, Law Library, Business/SPEA Library may be checked out with an IU Borrower’s Card.
- If all owned copies at the above-mentioned eligible libraries are checked out or otherwise unavailable, an ILL request may be submitted.
- Items held only at the Lilly Library, Kinsey Institute Library, or in residence hall libraries are not available for checkout with an IU Borrower’s Card and are suitable for interlibrary loan requests.
- Exceptions to this availability policy will be made for House Calls patrons and those living in assisted living homes. Patrons may check out items from IU Libraries with a state ID at no cost.
Patrons may fill out our Suggest a Purchase form for items that cannot be interlibrary loaned.
There are potential charges when requesting an ILL item; interlibrary loan staff will contact patrons in this event. The ILL process takes between 2–4 weeks and the due date is determined by the lending library. Patrons will be notified when their ILL hold is ready.
