Indiana Youth Musicians provides area young musicians with an opportunity to play music in a supportive, yet challenging environment. At IYM youth are given a chance to try out new and different possibilities in music. Musicians may be encouraged to try their hand at something a little different, whether it is joining a small chamber ensemble for the first time or trying out music in which they are unfamiliar.
The Harp program is open to students with no previous musical training, though 1-2 years of piano and a sense of humor are highly recommended. An interview is necessary prior to acceptance in the program. Harp students receive one private lesson each week, participate in weekly master classes, and perform in a class recital at the end of each semester. The program is directed by Associate Professor of Music Elzbieta Szmyt, who creates an inspiring atmosphere of friendship and support.
