Description	The Latino Programs and Outreach division of the Community and Family Resources Department was created to serve our community's rapidly growing Latino immigrant population. Area staff serve as the liaison for the Department and for community organizations providing support to the Spanish speaking population and/or promoting diversity and cultures. Description	El Centro Comunal Latino (CCL) is a grassroots, community-based organization that seeks to provide an accessible and safe space for all Latinos, with a focus on Spanish-speaking people, to find information, access to resources and a place to hold community events. El Centro Comunal Legal Advice Project

Description	The CCL Advice Project, created in conjunction with Indiana Legal Services, Bloomington; the District 10 Pro Bono Project; and the IU School of Law, will connect private attorneys or legal service organizations with Spanish speakers seeking legal help. Fees are based on individual legal needs and financial means. Spanish speaking volunteers will take applications for civil legal matters at designated time, and the referral program will ensure, to the extent possible, that the Latino applicant Is matched with an attorney and an interpreter if necessary.

Description	The Chicano-Rique?o Studies Program is an interdisciplinary program offering students an opportunity to study the cultural roots, heritage, and contemporary social framework of the Chicano, Puerto Rican, and other Spanish-speaking peoples of the United States. The program encourages a United States Latino focus within the Latin American studies minor or certificate, and its faculty sponsors courses, symposia, guest lectures, poetry readings, and research on United States Hispanics in the fields of anthropology, bilingual education, folklore, history, language, and literature. The program publishes an occasional series of scholarly monographs on literature, language, and culture. It helps support Chiric?, a literary magazine, and helped found Third Woman, a journal of women writers; it also promotes musical performances, art exhibits, and readings of Chicano and Puerto Rican works

Description	The Latino Cultural Center, La Casa, was established at Indiana University in November of 1973. Its purpose was, and continues to be, to achieve through educational and social programs, a greater historical, political and cultural awareness regarding Latina/os. As an advocacy office, we work closely with other units on campus to assist in the recruitment and retention of Latina/o students. La Casa is staffed by a full-time director, an administrative assistant, a graduate assistant and a number of undergraduate work-study students whose goal is also to create an environment where anyone in the Latino community can go and feel a sense of community and belonging.
